Nutrition and How to Eat Properly
What if I told you that you can eat ice-cream and still lose weight?
It is completely true, and achieving such a seemingly absurd reality might not sound doable. All you have to do, is make sure your calories consumed are less than the calories spent.
Here's an example. If you spend 2000 calories a day and you eat 1800, that -200 calories over time will manifest as weight loss.
However, you must keep in mind, you have 3 categories of food you must track that give you your calories.
1- Carbohydrates or Carbs
Each gram of Carbs has 4 calories, a gram of Protein has 4 calories, and a gram of fat has 9 Calories.
The best way to track your calories, is to track these three categories rather than simply tracking calories. While yes, eating ice cream all day might sound fun and you will still lose weight given that you are under the calories spent, your muscle mass might also drop due to insufficient protein.
Find out how many grams of Carbs, Fats, and Protein each food has, and multiply that by the calories that macro carries to get your calories.
Calculating your calories spent can be a bit tricky, and rather than explain that complex formula, I will simply link this calculator that allows you to input your height, weight, and age to find out your caloric needs.
Or do what I do, and use MyFitnessPal, an app on your phone. You can simply put in what food you are eating and get your calories AND your macros. It calculates everything for you including your target intake!
Good luck with your weight loss journey!
